KDG Construction Consulting is seeking a highly motivated Electrical/IT Inspector to provide quality assurance and construction inspection services for large-scale building and infrastructure projects. This position is responsible for performing comprehensive inspections of electrical and information technology (IT) systems throughout all phases of construction to ensure compliance with applicable codes, contract documents, project specifications, and quality standards.
The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience performing electrical inspections on commercial, institutional, industrial, or public works construction projects, strong knowledge of electrical codes and safety standards, and the ability to effectively coordinate with contractors, engineers, and project stakeholders in a fast-paced construction environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Perform comprehensive daily inspections of electrical and IT systems to ensure compliance with construction documents, project specifications, and applicable building codes.
• Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, shop drawings, submittals, Requests for Information (RFIs), and change orders.
• Prepare detailed daily inspection reports documenting construction activities, deficiencies, safety concerns, project progress, and corrective actions.
• Verify contractor compliance with applicable electrical codes and standards, including the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, and NFPA 72.
• Track and document time-and-material work, field changes, and installed quantities.
• Assist in validating contractor progress payment requests based on approved schedules of values.
• Coordinate and support special inspections and testing activities with contractors, engineers, and third-party testing agencies.
• Inspect electrical installations, including underground utilities, duct banks, conduit systems, grounding systems, switchgear, electrical panels, lighting systems, and high-voltage electrical equipment.
• Perform inspections of fire life safety systems, including smoke and heat detection systems, fire alarm systems, and clean agent suppression systems.
• Inspect electrical shutdowns, lockout/tagout procedures, and breaker coordination activities.
• Inspect IT infrastructure installations, including low-voltage communication systems, voice and data cabling, access control systems, security systems, public address systems, communication rooms, and related equipment.
• Utilize electronic document management and project management software to review construction documents, maintain inspection records, and support project documentation.
• Coordinate with project managers, contractors, engineers, consultants, and project stakeholders to resolve field issues and maintain construction quality.
• Perform additional project-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience performing electrical and/or IT inspections for commercial, institutional, industrial, or public works building construction projects.
• Current ICC Commercial Electrical Inspector certification.
• Proof of NFPA 70E standards training completed within the past three (3) years prior to assignment.
• Proof of OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety training completed within the past four (4) years prior to assignment.
• Training and working knowledge of NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, and NFPA 72.
• Fall protection and harness training.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Excel, Word, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Bluebeam, PM Web, or similar construction document management software.
• Ability to review and utilize electronic contract documents, including drawings, specifications, change orders, submittals, RFIs, and inspection documentation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational, documentation, problem-solving, and time management skills.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with contractors, consultants, clients, and project stakeholders.
• Ability to work flexible schedules, including day, swing, or night shifts, weekends, and overtime, as required to support construction activities and project schedules.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Journey-level experience as an electrician with a focus on the installation and repair of electrical systems in commercial, institutional, industrial, or public works environments.
• Experience performing quality assurance and construction inspections on large-scale capital improvement projects.
• Experience overseeing contractor compliance with building codes, electrical codes, and construction specifications.
• Experience coordinating with contractors, engineers, testing agencies, and project owners on complex construction projects.
• Strong ability to identify deficiencies and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
• Strong understanding of diverse electrical code requirements and construction inspection best practices.
• Willingness to learn agency- or owner-specific construction standards and inspection requirements.
• Experience utilizing PM Web or similar project management software.
Anticipated Salary Range: $140,000.00 – $160,000.00 per year
