Airside Construction Manager

KDG Construction Consulting is seeking a ​Senior Construction Manager to oversee and manage aviation airside construction projects currently underway at LAX . The Senior Construction Manager will provide on site field construction activities associated with the completion of several medium size projects. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Apply comprehensive knowledge of various disciplines to be used during construction, as well as the methods and techniques to be utilized for installation.
  • Become thoroughly familiar with required contractual obligations and technical aspects of all facilities to be erected
  • Field administration, procurement, and field engineering
  • Directs the overall planning of construction activities to identify critical milestones and priorities
  • Determine budget estimates and staffing requirements for the defined scope and schedule
  • Ensure that the services of subcontractors and major construction equipment required by the project will be available at the appropriate time to ensure maximum efficiency and productivity
  • Establish assignments for Construction Superintendents for various work areas of construction operations, monitoring progress and recommending corrective action as necessary
  • Conduct performance evaluations and recommends promotions and salary actions.
  • Manage the assignment of manpower, materials, and equipment to maximize efficiency, maintain schedules, and to meet budget goals
  • Keep alert to possible problem areas and take preventative action to ensure that critical milestones are met for each phase of the project
  • Ensure the use of sound construction practices to attain required quality control at the maximum efficiency and minimum cost
  • Prepare periodic reports summarizing progress of construction activities for higher-level management and clients
  • Ensure effective implementation of all policies and procedures, including labor relations policies
  • Contribute to the advancement of PDG’s goals through commitment to productive collaboration with all stakeholders
  • Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate
  • Conduct Weekly Construction Meetings and Meeting Minutes
  • Coordinate and schedule  Runway Construction work during short outage windows  with Contractor and Airfield Operations
  • Review Contractor Potential Change Order Claims for Merit and negotiate to final resolution

Required Experience, Certifications, and Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Science in Construction related field or equivalent construction related work experience
  • 5-10 years of experience in field construction is required
  • Experience in the construction of large civil/structural and/or industrial projects at domestic and/or foreign locations
  • Preferred civil flat work experience - airports and road construction.  Airport civil airfield work on runway, taxiway, apron and associated utilities.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite software - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • knowledge of Prolog and other Project Management Systems is preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of construction-related processes, as well as a thorough knowledge of industry practices
  • Proven leadership and management capability is required
  • Good written and oral communications skills
  • Must possess capability to report on all levels of project schedules, quality, monitor project progress, risk and ensure project milestones are met.
  • Must be able to review contractor schedules and related documents for compliance with contract documents.
  • Must clearly and concisely be capable of presenting project trends, risks  and forecast performance reports to management and to make recommendations on strategies and  mitigation measures to resolve project issues is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in progress reporting documents and ability to understand a demanding, technical and complicated construction program plus the ability to communicate progress and issues both verbally and written communications on technical and non-technical matters for various levels of management.
  • Must possess the ability to effectively interact with various departments to maintain open lines of communication.
  • Self-starter with results-driven focus and ability to work with others.
  • Experience working with outside agencies i.e. General Services division, LADBS, LADWP, etc.
