Assistant Resident Engineer

KDG Construction Consulting is a construction management firm based in Glendale, CA. We provide construction management support to public and private clients in the utilities, aviation and utility markets throughout California and Nevada.

KDG is seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer with previous experience in water utilities and/or water infrastructure construction. The Assistant Resident Engineer will be responsible for overall technical expertise, field direction and supervision, and proactive risk management to mitigate or eliminate project risks associated with schedule, budget, safety or quality compliance.The Assistant Resident Engineer will report directly to the Resident Engineer.

The full-time position will based at the project site, which may be outside of Los Angeles. Candidates must be comfortable working in a remote environment. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for assisting the Collaborate with Resident Engineer with overall field contract management, administration and coordination on behalf of the client
  • Supports the RE as a liaison between the client, contractor, design team, and CM team to ensure overall communication of project progress and issue resolution
  • Manage technical and inspection staff to ensure that the contractor's activities are monitored and controlled in accordance with schedule, design specifications, and contractual requirements
  • Analyze complex construction/design problems requiring the development of new or improved techniques or procedures and consults with design engineering personnel
  • Attend and lead construction-related meetings and make presentations to project stakeholders, including owner staff, design team, contractors, agencies and third-party groups
  • Coordinate, track and review all Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals and shop drawings to resolve issues, as needed 
  • Manage and monitor field document control and record keeping
  • Provide and supervise change order processing, cot estimating, negotiation, dispute resolution, and clams avoidances
  • Aggressively negotiate change orders
  • Prepare, process and track monthly construction progress payment requests
  • Prepare monthly reports
  • Lead and manage project close-out administration
  • Mentor and train staff 
  • Proactively anticipate issues and advise management and project teams
  • Coordinate with State agencies, as needed
  • Perform other duties, as required

Required Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications:

  • Five to 10 years of previous experience in a similar Assistant RE or Field Administration role
  • Previous experience on similar water utilities, water infrastructure, and/or heavy utility construction projects
  • Experience overseeing constructions projects valued over $20 million preferred 
  • State of California Professional Engineer's license is highly desirable
  • Technical knowledge of hydraulic systems / pipes/ pumping stations design
  • Demonstrated experience providing leadership and guidance to engineering and constructionprofessionals with a focus on client relationships and successful projects
  • Strong communication, presentation, writing and computer skills are essential
