Civil Inspector

KDG is seeking an experienced Civil Inspector with previous experience in heavy civil construction projects to support a complex utility infrastructure project in the Owens Valley in Central California. The Civil Inspector is responsible for investigating and monitoring field conditions associated with the project, ensuring compliance with all project specifications and drawings related to civil elements, anticipating potential issues and recommending solutions, as required.  

The full-time position will based at the project site, which is outside of Los Angeles in the Owens Lake Valley in Central California. Candidates must be comfortable working in a remote environment. Per diem and living allowance provided to qualified applicants outside of the immediate geographical area.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interacts closely with the Contractors field personnel to resolve field issues
  • Investigates and monitors field conditions associated with the project's civil and mechanical elements
  • Monitors and documents construction activity to ensure contractor's adherence to quality control plan and compliance with project plans and specifications
  • Inspects construction operations and make recommendations to ensure that minimum quality control requirements are maintained
  • Monitors bid items and tracks quantities for payment of Work
  • Ensures the development and maintenance of the As-Built drawing records
  • Generates Safe Plans of Action and Safety Observation Reports
  • Performs quantity calculations for payment purposes
  • Provides input for contract change orders, submittal responses, and RFI responses
  • Maintains and manages daily inspection reports, photo documentation and thorough documentation of change order issues.
  • Coordinates close-out process, including as-built drawings, punch list, technical manuals and other deliverables.

Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management or related technical field preferred
  • Six to 10 years of experience in construction inspection preferably within the aviation industry. 
  • ACI, NICET or similar Civil Inspection Certifications preferred
  • OSHA- 30 Hour and additional training preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent field investigations and collect field data to support design work
  • Ability to effectively follow instructions; deal effectively with contractors and public
  • Ability to understand specifications
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel software
  • Good team player, aggressive self-starter
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
