Senior Project Manager

KDG Construction Consulting is seeking an experienced Project Manager (PM) with previous experience in water utilities construction to support a complex utility infrastructure project in the Owens Valley in Central California. The Project Manager is responsible for directing and mentoring on-site staff.  The position requires construction project management acumen and must demonstrate strong leadership, organizational and time management skills, as well as have strong communication and client service skills.

The ideal candidate will be a Professional Engineer (PE) with demonstrated success overseeing a similar project in an Owner’s Representative capacity. 

The is a full-time position based at the project site approximately 250 miles outside of Los Angeles, CA. Candidates must be comfortable working in a remote high desert environment and at times challenging environmental conditions

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for overall field contract management, administration and coordination on behalf of the client. Managing and direct all office and field staff.
  • Serve as the on-site liaison between the client, contractor, design team and CM team to ensure overall communication of project progress and issue resolution.
  • Manage technical and inspection staff to ensure that the contractor's activities are monitored and controlled in accordance with schedule, design specifications and contractual requirements. 
  • Analyze complex construction/design problems requiring the development of new or improved techniques or procedures and consults with design engineering personnel.
  • Attend and lead all construction-related meetings and make presentations to project stakeholders, including owner staff, design team, contractors, agencies and third-party groups.
  • Manage and monitor field document control and record keeping. 
  • Provide and supervise change order processing, cost estimating, negotiation, dispute resolution and claims avoidances. Aggressively negotiate change orders.
  • Prepare, process and track monthly construction progress payment requests.
  • Lead and manage project close-out administration.

Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • Over 15 years of previous experience in a similar Project Manager, Resident Engineer, Owner's Representative or Construction Manager position.
  • Previous experience overseeing water utilities, water infrastructure, or heavy utility construction projects.
  • State of California Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Construction Management-related field required.
  • Experience coordinating with state agencies such as the Bureau of Land Management, Cal-Trans, California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Previous experience supporting construction projects valued over $50 million preferred. 
  • Demonstrated success providing leadership and guidance to engineering and construction professionals with a focus on client relationships and successful projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times. 
  • Ability to function effectively as part of a team. 
  • Computer knowledge and efficiency, including MS Office Products.
  • Working knowledge of Oracle Primavera P6 and Contract Manager.
  • Experience managing archaeological finds.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and computer skills essential.
